Welcome to

ALTON LITTLE THEATER

“When the House Lights dim and the darkness is pierced by even a single spotlight, the magic of the world will appear on stage – for Theatre is the reflection of Everything that we as mere mortals do experience. Live Theater is always changing- for it is our history, our yearnings, our glorious love set to longing and music that heals our hearts. Let the lights shine every night in some “Little” theater, somewhere in the world!”
K.E. Baltimore

Alton Little Theater joins theaters around the country in celebrating the 150th anniversary of Community Theater. Even as our new nation was expanding, visionaries believed that new settlements needed services, protections, and venues for artistic expression. Early visionaries in Wisconsin and Illinois planned for small theaters to be supported by community pledges. While those early sites may be gone, the American Association of Community Theaters celebrates the 100+ groups still thriving and now marking their 100th anniversary. ALT is catching up, launching its 91st season at the Dorothy Colonius Showplace.

ALT attracts visitors from across the Riverbend region and produces live theatrical productions every month. The 91st season includes five mainstage plays and musicals, five extra entertainment events for new works and popular shows for different age groups, and two big concert events. Season tickets are on sale now through August 31st.

Everyone is invited to experience the traditions of live theater. Join the generations who have kept the fun and heart of theater alive. Call 618-462-3205 for information and check out all the features on our website!

Why OLIVER! Is a Must-See

Securing the rights to perform OLIVER! following its seventh Broadway revival in 2023 was a significant achievement for Alton Little Theater. Since its debut in London in 1960 and its Broadway premiere in 1963, OLIVER! has become a global favorite. The 1968 film adaptation won six Academy Awards and ten Tony nominations, catapulting the careers of stars like Phil Collins, Davey Jones, Ron Moody, Leonardo Whiting, and Patti LuPone.

Directed by Kevin Frakes, with musical direction by Mary Mahoney and choreography by Orcennio Gaines, our production of OLIVER! showcases the talents of 18 local youth and 13 seasoned adult performers. Executive Director Lee Cox, with help from Grand Ball Costumes of Charleston, IL, and Colleen Michelson of St. Louis, has created stunning costumes, properties, and lighting that bring the show to life.

Our cast features new talents such as Knox Schell (Oliver) and Finn Kane (Artful Dodger), alongside experienced performers Randy Manning (Fagin), Karie Preston (Nancy), and Larry Ingram (Bill Sykes).
